The introduction of laws laid down by government of India 2017 has made it mandatory for all citizens to link their Aadhaar card to their monetary transaction machineries across all segments. Thus EPFO has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar to EPF. As such you need to link Aadhaar with your Provident fund account.

Earlier there was an option to update it online only. However, now offline facility is also made available to the citizen of India.

Let’s take a walk down why it is important to link our Aadhaar Card to our EPF account:

  • Aadhaar contains details like your name, date of birth and address details along with your photo, hence it is one of the important KYC document.
  • Linking Aadhaar will allow to merge multiple UAN into a single UAN
  • Since, Aadhaar contains both POI – Proof of Identity and POA – Proof of Address this will reduce the multiple documentation paper work into singular console of representation.
  • By linking Aadhaar to your EPF it becomes easy for EPFO to verify your KYC credentials.

The linking of Aadhaar to your EPF has the above major benefits however there may be some different views of making Aadhaar linking as mandatory, yet in future ahead Aadhaar card will act as the most important document of authentication for citizens of India.

The following are the steps below to link your Aadhaar to your EPF account:

First visit the website of EPFO at the link mentioned below

https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/

Login to the portal using your credentials: UAN number, password, and captcha, remember the captcha is case sensitive in nature hence enter the numbers or alphabet as shown in the picture. The login page looks like as below:

Provident fund account linking with aadhaar EPFOOn signing in the page will redirect you to your account. On the home screen under manage tab and under manage tab select KYC.

Once you have selected the KYC it will take you to another page where there would multiple option available to update like passport, bank PAN etc, out of which select the Aadhaar card option and click on it. Once you have done that update your Aadhaar number and name as shown in the Aadhaar card and click save option at the bottom of the page.

Most of the people will face the issues here because of a mismatch in names or service issues with either EPFO or UDAI. In such a case you may not be unable to update it. In case, there is a mismatch with name, then try to inform the same immediately with your employer to resolve the issue.

Once this step has been successful accomplished it will take you to another 15 days for your Aadhaar number to get approved from EPFO. Till then it will show a pending status.

Once approved your Aadhaar number will be successfully linked to your EPF account.

However other than online linking of Aadhaar card to EPF account government has introduced offline facility of Aadhaar linking for people as well. To link your Aadhaar to your EPF account, employees and pensioners can walk in any of the field offices of EPFO or CSC outlets with UAN & Aadhaar and seed the Aadhaar with the UAN.
