With the launch of Provident fund portability, it is important to have your UAN Number. The UAN number will not only link your EPF accounts with various past employers but also eliminates dependency on the Employer for the withdrawals. The UAN number will provided to you by your current employer however you can always check whether it has been issued or not.

In this article, we will see,the steps required to check UAN number online

Step 1- Visit UAN – EPFO site

You need to visit http://uanmembers.epfoservices.in/ This is separate link on the EPFO site specifically for the Universal Account Number or PF number portability. This is a specific link for employees EPFO care to provide separate link for Employers which is https://employerclaims.epfoservices.in/

Step 2 – Click on “Know your UAN status”

You will find this link on the left hand side upper corner. You need to click on this link.

Step 3 – Provide your PF Number and other relevant details

Once you click on “Know your UAN status”, you will reach a page “Check UAN status” where you need to enter PF number and other relevant details of your PF account. These details are available in your salary slips or the EPFO passbook. In case, you do not find the same, it is better to ask your employer immediately and keep a record of the same. The columns which are required to be filled are as follows:

 

1. State: It is the state where your PF account is maintained. Generally it is where your employer is registered with EPFO. It is also reflected in your PF account number as the first two letters like MH, DS etc.

2. PF office: Different states have number of offices and your EPF account is maintained is any one of these offices. Normally, it is stated along-side your PF number. If you do not have any idea regarding the same, you may guess it with next three letters of your PF number.

3. PF Number: Enter your PF number. It will also verify your above stated details i.e. state and office. PF number will have three parts – a seven digit number which is unique to your organization, an extension which is usually an alphabet like “A” or it will be “000” and third will be your account number which will be again of seven digits.

Step 4 – Check your status

Once you enter your details, check your status which will tell your that whether your UAN number has been generated or not. Once generated, you may ask your employer to provide your UAN details.

When you get your UAN number from your employer it is important to Activate Your UAN. The activation will enable your online access and will let your link all your previous EPF accounts and view details for each of them.
