The Founding:
The idea of zero sugar, zero calories ice cream was brought to life by a veteran in food and beverages industry, Kiran Shah. Prior to his entrepreneurial stint he was instrumental in setting up Apsara ice creams from a single store to 100 stores nationally. Hit by the idea of healthy guilt free dessert he launched Go Zero in the year 2022 I Mumbai. In a very short span, the company now has 50+ stores in Mumbai and Pune. It is available through ecommerce site like Swiggy and Zomato. The ice cream can be ordered on their webpage or WhatsApp too. Now that’s what we call taking advantage of the digital world. So here they are catering to the diabetic, nut allergens, vegan and even the protein lovers with their whey protein ice creams.
The Funding:
On Aug 8th the company raised $8 M in seed funding. The major investors were V3 ventures, DSG consumer Partners and Saama Capitals, among others. The funding will be used to expand Go Zero’s presence across all major cities. The company is also looking forward to being present in all e-commerce channels like Blinkit, Instamart, Zepto and others. They also intend to spend a chunk of funding on marketing the brand.
The Future:
The global ice cream industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.14% during 2023-28, as per imarc group. The market now offers not just varied flavors but also varied nutrient rich products, like lactose free, gluten free, vegan, sugar free, low calorie, natural sweeter, organic and even protein rich versions of the frozen dessert. The distribution network has also undergone a huge change and ice creams are now readily and conveniently available through e-commerce sites, hypermarkets and even physical stores.
The ice cream industry in India reached a whopping INR 194.1 billion in 2022.It is expected to quadruple by 2039 growing at a CAGR of 15%.
